Nominations are being accepted for the Association for Progressive Communication (APC) Chris Nicol Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) Prize. An individual or group doing extraordinary work to make FLOSS accessible to ordinary computer users can be nominated for the prize.
APC is a non-profit association of member and partner networks around the world, committed to making the internet serve the needs of global civil society. The APC aims that all people have easy and affordable access to a free and open internet to improve their lives and create a more just world.
Initiatives that are making it easy for people to use free/libre and open source software, leading to a significant uptake of FLOSS, or that are advancing social change and development projects using FLOSS are highly prioritized for the APC Chris Nicol FLOSS Prize.
Prizes:
- Public global APC Chris Nicol FLOSS Prize worth US$4,000 for public recognition of innovative initiatives
- APC Member FLOSS Prize worth US$1,500 for an individual or organisation within the APC membership
- A prize in the form of Hardware for the APC program or management system team that has made the greatest strides in adopting FLOSS
Eligibility Criteria:
- The nominee can be a person or group anywhere in the world who supports or promotes user-oriented free/libre and open source software.
- The project can be in any language but the nomination form must be completed in either English or Spanish language.
- Candidates can not be government agencies, nor part of the UN or other large intergovernmental bodies.
- The submissions may be in virtually any multimedia format – narrative description, story, video or image.
- Small-Scale activities are encouraged to apply for the Prize.
