Deadline- 14 January 2013
Countries/Region- All Countries
Applicants are invted to apply for Darwin Initiative 19th Round of Funding for Scoping Awards which is funded by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
The Darwin Initiative’s core theme – supporting countries rich in biodiversity but poor in financial resources to meet the obligations under one or more of the three international biodiversity conventions(CBD, CMS, CITES) – continues with the additional focus from 2012 on development and human welfare based on DFID’s core mandate as enshrined in the UK’s International Development Act. Defra, DFID and the FCO remain committed to the UK Overseas Territories as outlined in the recent White Paper published in June 2012.
Scoping awards aim to increase the legacy and impact of the Initiative and to enhance collaboration with host country partners.
Defra recognises that the project development phase can be costly, particularly for smaller organisations without strong institutional backing, as well as partners in developing countries. It is intended that activities carried out with the help of scoping awards will strengthen collaboration and host country ownership from the beginning of projects, should the resultant main project application be successful. The Darwin Initiative requires organisations applying for main project funding to submit full proposals developed with the participation of all main partners.
