Royal College of Art offers 2013 175 Anniversary Scholarships for PhD Students for which the courses are offered by the university. The studentship, which is worth £10,000, must be held full-time and will last for three years.
Criteria–
- An outstanding PhD proposal
- Relevance of the research to the strategic research themes of the six Schools, the work of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design and the Creative Exchange Hub
- Professional development- The Royal College of Art encourages holders of this award to undertake a certain amount of teaching or demonstrating work during the period of a studentship, if the opportunity arises. Such work can provide invaluable experience and is a useful extension to their research training. It may be undertaken provided that-
- the total demand on the student’s time, including contact time and a reasonable allowance for preparation and marking, does not exceed 180 hours in any one year
- the total demand on the student’s time does not exceed six hours in any week
- the work is compatible with the student’s programme of doctoral study
- the student’s supervisor approves.
Eligibility–
The studentship will be awarded on the basis of an outstanding PhD proposal and the potential relevance of the research to the strategic research themes of the six Schools, the work of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design and Creative Exchange Hub. The competition is open to new Home/EU/Overseas students holding an offer to begin a research degree at the Royal College of Art, except those with Home RCUK or equivalent full funding.
