The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) invites organizations from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam to make nominations of candidate to participate in the Advanced International Training program on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). The major aim of the training program is to strengthen SEA capacity in the participant’s organizations.
Around 25-30 participants will be selected after conducting the two phases of selection (first – evaluation of nominations, second – interview with the selected participants). The selected participants will be supported in initiating and developing an SEA project that strengthens the use of SEA in planning processes that s/he is involved in.

- International and Swedish regulatory systems and experiences of implementation
- Good governance and implementation of SEA in practice
- Organizational change
Program phases
- 3-4 months Inception – SEAP (Strategic Environmental Assessment Program) is initiated in the participants home organization. Each participant is assigned a mentor to guide through the process.
- 3 Weeks Course in Sweden (19-28 November 2014) – Intensive course program covering all four thematic modules.
- 6 months Implementation – With the help of online-coaching by the mentors, participants implement the SEAPs within their home organization.
- 2 Weeks Course in Vietnam (18-29 May 2015) – Additional theory and exercises along with sharing of experiences gained by implementing the SEA projects.
- 6 months Implementation – Participants implement the SEAPs and organize a workshop at the home organization.
The mentors visit the participants’ organizations either in the 3rd or the last phase. Participants receive a training certificate upon final reporting and approval.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nominations must be made by organizations in the following countries – Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.
- Candidate must be e a key individual at middle or high level at an organization with a clear role in implementing or developing SEA.
- S/he must have the responsibility, mandate and ambition to manage a project related to strengthening SEA capacity in the organization.
- S/he must hold a relevant academic degree or have appropriate knowledge otherwise acquired.
- Candidate must commit to be available and motivated for active participation through the whole training program (around 18 months).
- Candidate must have English language proficiency. Language test from an official body in the home country is mandatory for candidates from countries where English is not an official language.
- Candidate must be in good health and full working capacity. Medical examination before filling in the Medical Statement in the Application form is strongly recommended.
