Project applications from students, young researchers or trained taxonomists outside Belgium are invited for ‘Training in Taxonomy and Collection Management & Access to Collections in Belgium’ Grant. The major purpose of the grant is to fund the recipients short-term visits in Belgium in order to help building scientific and technical expertise on biodiversity in the South.
The grant covers transport (both national and international), housing, insurance and daily allowance costs associated with the study visit to Belgium. Candidates are also assisted in regard to visa and other administrative procedures linked to the planned study visit.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Only pure taxonomic projects or biodiversity assessment projects with a strong taxonomic component for which the grant seeker needs training or access to Belgium-based collections, expertise or infrastructure are considered as eligible for the grant.
- Applicants must be citizens of one of the eligible countries – Algeria, Bangladesh, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, D.R. Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Salvador, Senegal, South Africa, Suriname, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- Applicants must, in any way, be linked with linked to a scientific institution with which the Belgian GTI NFP has a privileged relationship.
- Proposed project must address clear taxonomic and/or curatorial components; and must address priority taxonomic and/or curatorial key gaps of their country or region.
- The project must aim at building taxonomic and curatorial expertise in their country or region.
