All eligible applicants are invited to apply for Swire/Cathay Pacific Scholarships offered by Swire Educational Trust, founded by John Swire & Sons. The aim of funding this scholarship is to demonstrate exceptional academic merit and/or potential of applicants. The scholarship is provided in the areas of Humanities, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Department for Continuing Education.
Scholarship covers-
- 100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living costs (the rate was £14,100 in 2012-13).
- Economy airfares to and from London are provided at the beginning and end of the scholarship.
- The award is made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course. If scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.
Eligibility & Criteria-
- The scholarships are open to applicants who are permanent residents of Japan or China (for the Swire Centenary & Cathay Pacific awards) or Hong Kong (for the Swire/Cathay Pacific awards) who have completed the majority of their formal education in Japan (for Japanese permanent residents), China (for Chinese permanent residents) or Hong Kong (for Hong Kong permanent residents).
- The scholarships will be awarded primarily on academic merit, although financial need may be taken into account.
- Scholars must intend to return to Japan (for Japanese permanent residents), China (for Chinese permanent residents) or Hong Kong (for Hong Kong permanent residents) after completing their course of study. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in government, business, academia or a recognised profession.
