In order to increase and foster the participation of Egyptian researchers in these components – which will allow for better exchange of know-how and expertise – the EU and Egypt signed on June 18th, 2007 the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) agreement with a grant of €11 million for supporting research, development and innovation initiatives in Egypt. Similar to RDI, the new phase (RDI-2) will continue supporting research and innovation in multidisciplinary areas aligned with national and EU priorities as well as concentrating on long lasting collaborative research projects that could sustain themselves beyond the programme lifetime.
A key component of the Programme is the Innovation Fund that supports research outputs’ exploitation and innovation with closer links to national and/or European/ENPI industries. Throughout its four year duration (during RDI-1), the fund launched two Calls for Proposals, received 719 proposals and funded 51 projects addressing several industrial challenges.
The Fund through its Grant Scheme 1 will support projects on competitive basis for applied research, with an emphasis on innovation i.e. Applications and funding of large size projects will be encouraged as well as those projects including an EU and/or ENPI partner from the industry or research sector.
The global objective of this Call for Proposals is: Support research outputs exploitation and innovation with closer links to national and/or European industries.
