The European Commission is accepting applications for the EU-METALIC (European Union- Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya International Cooperation) Scholarship from students or academic staff in select EU-METALIC partner countries in Africa. This program is open for candidates from the EU member states. Students/staff registered/employed at a university is eligible to become EU-METALIC scholar and a mobility period studying or researching at a host university.
The scholarships are designed for Students (undergraduates, masters, doctorate, post-doctorate) and staff members and graduates from Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algerian and Libya wanting to study at a partner EU University and for students or staff from EU member countries to study in the mentioned African countries.
Mobility for Exchange Students
- Undergraduate – 1 Semester or 1 academic year (maximum 10 months)
- Master – 1 Semester or 1 academic year (maximum 10 months)
- Doctorate – 6 months – 20 months
- Post-doctorate – 6-10 months
- Staff – 1 Month
The scholarship includes – monthly subsistence allowance, insurance (travel, health, accident), participation costs up to EUR 3000, travel costs from home and Host University.
Target Groups
- Applicants who are registered/employed at one of the EU or Third-country partner Higher Education Institutions at the point of submitting the application. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution.
- Applicants who are registered at European, Moroccan, Egyptian, Tunisian, Algerian or Libyan Higher Education Institution that is not a partner in the EU-METALIC project.
OR
Applicants who have obtained a university degree or equivalent from a European, Moroccan, Egyptian, Tunisian, Algerian or Libyan Higher Education Institution.
- Third-country nationals who are part of the vulnerable target groups, for example: a) having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries; b) it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination; c) they belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons).
Eligibility Criteria for African Partner Countries
- Applicants must have Moroccan, Egyptian, Tunisian, Algerian or Libyan Nationality.
- Students (Undergraduate, Masters, Doctorate, Post-Doctorate) must not have resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the eligible European countries at the time of submitting their application to the partnership. This rule does not apply to Target Group 3 applicants.
- Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses.
- Neither European nor third-country candidates can benefit from a second scholarship for the same type of mobility under another project under the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 – Strand 1. Furthermore, candidates cannot benefit from more than one mobility activity with the same project.
Note: Degree-seeking students can also apply for EU-METALIC program. The maximum mobility is 36 months. In this case, the students need to comply with the Host University entry requirements.
