Deadline: Currently Open for 2015 fellowship
The MEPI Leaders Democracy Fellowship (LDF) Program of the US Department of State is open for Civic leaders from the Middle East and North Africa. This is a chance for the selected fellows to spend 3 months in the United States participating in seminars, workshops, completing the academic coursework and professional assignments. The participants will gain a practical understanding of the interactions between government and civil society, while also gaining valuable knowledge, skills, and professional contacts to benefit their professional pursuits in their home countries.
Program Structure
- 6-week academic coursework – concepts of leadership, democracy, communication, and conflict resolution.
- 7-week professional assignment with a political, non-governmental, or public policy organization of professional interest in Washington, DC.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should be young professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 with a bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants must be fluent in English language.
- Applicants should have 5 years of work experience, as well as demonstrated leadership skills and a desire to apply the skills they have learned during the fellowship to benefit an organization, sector, or specific community.
- At the time of application, candidates must be citizens of the Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank/Gaza, and Yemen.
- Applications from candidates who hold US citizenship or are a US Legal Permanent Resident are not considered.
