The UNCSD is inviting applications from interested candidates for the funded position of Major Group for Children and Youth representative for the Regional Implementation Meeting for Africa (ECA). The ECA will be organized from 10 – 14 October 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The candidate selected for the funded position will be offered full funding for a return ticket to Addis Ababa and per diem for the period of ECA.
Supported participants will be expected to:
– Participate actively and regularly for the full duration of ECA (mandatory stay in Addis Ababa between 10-14 October 2011 as well as daily ECA attendance)
– Participate in pre-ECA activities (such as training session for the Major Groups)
– Write daily blogs or tweet about the meeting
– Write a 2-3 page final report covering youth activities and engagement at the ECA, including a review of the personal contribution to these activities
– develop and undertake at least 3 youth trainings/workshops (on the ground or online) in the Africa region as a means of knowledge sharing on Sustainable Development issues and Rio+20 Conference and youth mobilization for the Conference by January 2012.
Selection Criteria
– Age (up to 30 years)
– Geographical preference (only applicants from African countries will be considered)
– Applicants should have been engaged in a youth or children organization previously and demonstrate support from his or her organization in the application
– The main focus of the applicant’s engagement should be within the themes and objectives of the Conference (Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development, Green Economy in the context of poverty eradication and Development, renewed political commitment, implementations gaps, new and emerging issues)
– Good English skills
Selected participant will be notified about the selection by 5 August 2011.
Young people who do not meet the above criteria, or who may not emerge successfully from this funding process are encouraged to seek alternative support to be able to attend ECA. The Major Group for Children and Youth Organising Partners will do its best to facilitate accreditation for all youth applicants, as much as possible.
