The African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) invites African women scientists from one of the 11 eligible countries to participate in the AWARD Fellowship 2015. Interest individuals with bachelor’s, masters’ or doctoral degree are encouraged to apply for the two-year fellowship program that allows them to take a leap in their career advancement.
AWARD is a career-development program that equips top women agricultural scientists across sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate agricultural gains by strengthening their research and leadership skills, through two-year fellowships. AWARD directly invests in women scientists, empowering them to help close the gender gap across the agricultural value chain.
In 2015, 70 women agricultural scientists will be provided the fellowship on the basis of their intellectual merit.

Each fellow is matched with a suitable mentor, an experienced senior advisor who offers career guidance and scientific knowledge.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be the citizens of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zambia.
- Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines – Agricultural economics, Agricultural engineering, Agronomy, Animal and livestock sciences, Aquatic resources and fisheries, Biodiversity conservation, Crop science, Ecology, Entomology, Extension education, Food science and nutrition, Forestry and agro-forestry, Horticulture, Molecular biology (plant/animal breeding), Natural resources management, Plant/animal virology, Soil science, Veterinary sciences, Water and irrigation management, and other agriculture-related field.
- Applicants must commit to reside in Africa throughout the fellowship period.
- Applicants must commit to be available to attend one of three five-day AWARD Mentoring Orientation Workshops, to be held in Kenya if selected for fellowship.
