The Medical Research Council of South Africa invites pre-application for the Global Program ‘What Works to Prevent Violence’. The program ‘Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls: Intervention Development, Delivery, Operations Research and Impact Evaluation’ aims to build knowledge on what works to prevent VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls).
Types of Grants:
- Innovation Grants – The grants for development, implementation and evaluation of the intervention; monitoring and evaluation; and capacity development of staff from the in-country lead organization. Total ten to fourteen (10-14) grants will be awarded under this call in the year 2014.
- Operations Research and Impact Evaluation of existing interventions or combinations of interventions – The interventions that aim to prevent intimate partner or sexual VAWG as primary or secondary goal within a wider program. Interventions that already have some evidence of promise from preliminary research are encouraged to apply. Interventions that seek to work with disabled women and girls or other socially excluded groups are strongly encouraged.
Advantages of Submitting Pre-Application Notice (Letter of Interest):
- Those who submit pre-application notice will be informed of the Request for Application when it is issued (in June).
- They will receive feedback on how to strengthen the proposal for the final applications.
Eligibility criteria:
- Proposed interventions must aim to prevent intimate partner or sexual violence against women and girls.
- Priority countries for the project are – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burma, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Projects working across more than one priority country or across a region are also considered.
- Applicant organization can be from anywhere. Preference is given to in-country organization.
- Individuals are not eligible to apply.
