The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) is accepting applications for admissions to the West Africa Peacebuilding Institute (WAPI) training program to be held from 05th to 23rd September, 2011 at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra, Ghana.
During the three-week intensive WAPI training session provides specialized, intensive, and culturally sensitive training in conflict transformation and peace-building to individuals, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Business Community, Policy-makers, Government institutions and other relevant actors from West Africa and beyond.
For the past years, WAPI has provided the space and platform for the actualization of WANEP’s vision for the prevention and resolution of conflicts in Africa. Since its inception, WAPI has also been the learning centre within WANEP for networking and the exchange of best practices in peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
Six courses will be offered during the three-week period, each week having two 5-day intensive courses running concurrently. The courses are highly interactive and participatory, blending theory and practice in the field of peacebuilding.
Objectives of WAPI:
- To develop action-oriented capacity for conflict transformation and peacebuilding
- To increase the number of competent, informed and active peacebuilding practitioners in West Africa and worldwide
- To provide quality training in peacebuilding at a reduced cost
- To develop context specific and indigenous models of conflict transformation and peacebuilding that can be integrated with existing models
- To provide skills to respond to workplace disputes in order to increase productivity for national development
- And to bridge the gap between policy and practice in peacebuilding
Courses:
Six courses will be offered during the three-week period, each week having two 5-day intensive courses running concurrently. The courses are highly interactive and participatory, blending theory and practice in the field of peacebuilding. The six courses are:
1. Introduction to Peacebuilding Paradigms: Theories and Practice of Peacebuilding
2. Dialogue and Mediation: Design and Processes
3. Youth and Peace Education
4. Human Security & Peacebuilding
5. Early Warning and Early Response: Building Community Capacity for Preventive Peacebuilding
6. Women & Gender Mainstreaming in Peacebuilding
PARTICIPATION COST
Each course costs USD1000 (One Thousand US Dollars) including tuition, course material, feeding and accommodation, and certification.
One can apply to a maximum of three courses for the September training with one course per session as courses in each session run concurrently.
