All eligible journalists are invited to apply for training program on how smartphones can help reporters’ job. This program is offered by Knight Center for Journalism in Americas. The goal of this training program is to learn mobile media usage information, why news organizations are adopting mobile strategies, how to cover and publish breaking news from the field with stories, photos and video, how to use local information apps to learn more about a community and how to use social media as a news reporting and discussion tool.
This online course is divided into weekly modules containing multimedia presentations and links to online resources. Most of the course activities can be followed in the days and times most appropriate for each student, and a live webinar will be held each week during the course. Exercises, online discussions and additional assignments will also be part of the curriculum. Participants can expect to spend 6-10 hours per week on the course.
Objectives-
Journalists will come away with–
- Knowledge about mobile media usage information
- Knowledge about how news organizations are adopting mobile strategies
- Techniques of how to cover and publish breaking news from the field with stories, photos and video
- Techniques of how to use local information apps to learn more about a community
- Techniques of how to use social media as a news reporting and discussion tool
Eligibility & Criteria-
- Journalists currently working in Latin America and the Caribbean
- Currently work full time or as freelancers for print, broadcast, or online news media
- Can commit to participating consistently in an intensive course that demands 6-10 hours a week.
- Have a smartphone and ability to download free apps to it
- An Internet-connected browser, to see the Knight lectures and to read course material
- Must be able to read English at a medium level – some reading materials will be in English
