Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) invites nominations for the 2011 WWF – Bagh (Tiger) Mitra Awards with the purpose of recognizing the services and initiatives taken by individuals and institutions/community groups for their leadership and transformative contribution to conserve India’s wild tigers and their habitats.
Instituted jointly by WWF- India and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), these awards are a celebration of India’s wild tigers and the incredible efforts to protect and conserve them for future generations.
Founded in 1951, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) continues to be the leading authority, advocate and catalyst for the responsible development of Asia Pacific’s travel and tourism industry. It works to enhance the sustainable growth, value and quality of travel and tourism to, from and within Asia Pacific — the world’s most dynamic region.
Category of Awards:
WWF-PATA Bagh Mitra Awards: Two awards for individuals who have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to wild tiger conservation in India: A cash award of INR 50,000/- and a citation, each.
WWF-PATA Bagh Mitra Award: One award to an organisation, institution or group for outstanding and lasting contribution to wild tiger conservation in India: A cash award of INR 100,000 and a citation.
Eligibility:
Nominees for these awards should have made significant and lasting contribution to conservation of wild tigers in India. This may include but is not limited to the following:
- Tiger habitat conservation
- Managing human-tiger conflict
- Prevention and control of tiger poaching and illegal trade
- Public awareness on tiger conservation issues.
The awards are open to Indian nationals, community groups and institutions and organisations registered and based in India for work done in India. The majority of the work should have been accomplished in a period of two years immediately preceding the Year of the Award. Thus for the awards presented in 2011, the work during 1st Jan 2009 -31st Dec. 2010 will be considered. Self nominations will not be considered.
