The inaugural Australia India Youth Dialogue (AIYD) is proposed to be hosted in January 2012 in Delhi and Mumbai. The AIYD presents the premier youth and young professional’s conference dedicated to the Australia – India relationship.
In this context, the Steering Committee of the AIYD is seeking applications from young Australian and Indian nationals who share a strong interest in regional affairs and leadership in their respective fields to be a delegate at the conference.
Purpose
The AIYD will create a formal dialogue between the youth of Australia and India. The establishment of the dialogue will provide a sustainable platform for the young leaders of Australia and India to come together and foster a strong partnership between the two countries. The conference will bring 15 young Australian leaders and 15 young Indian leaders together to hold constructive dialogue about various issues of significance to the Australia-India relationship, including the strategic partnership between Australia and India, the education sector, bilateral trade and investment, the resources sector and security concerns.
The participants will be chosen from a variety of professions with the aim to increase perspective of the participants and to encourage the leaders of tomorrow to think outside the box. High profile participants will be selected from a variety of backgrounds and mechanisms (such as online discussion forums, publication journals etc.) will be put in place to ensure that regular and formal discussion continues after the annual conferences.
Eligibility Requirements
Australian and Indian nationals, who at the time of the inaugural conference (January 2012) will be between 18-35 years of age and share a strong interest in regional affairs and leadership in their respective fields.
English fluency is essential. Applicants who meet these requirements will be selected by the Board of Advisors on the basis of their professional achievements, contribution to their communities, leadership, motivation and their interpersonal skills. It is expected that the applicants will be future leaders, who inspire and encourage members in the community to engage in stronger cooperation and dialogue between both countries.
It must be noted that while experience of Australia and India is highly regarded, it is not a prerequisite to participate in the 2012 AIYD.
Costs Covered
For all successful applicants, all costs associated with the AIYD including flights, transfers, accommodation and meals during the conference will be covered. No stipends will be provided for personal use.
The AIYD will not pay for visa application costs or any insurance coverage for any of the delegates.
