The Schizophrenia Research Foundation is inviting entries from journalists to participate in the SCARF Media for Mental Health Awards 2014 contest. The contest is open for Indian Print Journalists to submit their first hand field work on mental health published in an Indian newspaper between January to December 2013. The main goal of SCARF is to encourage more journalists to write on mental health related issues in an attempt to reduce the stigma in the society.
The major purpose of this award is to recognize journalistic efforts on mental health with appropriate information, interpretation, simple yet accurate explanation through which readers understand the medical information easily and to encourage the journalistic practice of delivering representative voices of related people.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Print journalists (including freelancers) who have published a story on mental health in any newspaper or registered magazine are eligible to participate.
- Applicants must submit entries that focus on or highlight one or more aspects of mental health such as all disorders of the mind (depression, anxiety, schizophrenia etc.), mental health care delivery, stigma and discrimination, effective interventions, family and community support, programs and policies, funding etc. Stories on life style related problems, stress related problems (such as call centre woes), marital problems etc. are not considered eligible.
- Featured articles published during the calendar year 2013 with the journalist’s byline are eligible. Name of the journalist, current employment details and all contact information must be included.
- Entries in regional languages must be accompanied by translations in English.
