First crafted and implemented in 2007, the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) is the approach adopted by European Union for promotion of democracy and human rights in the whole world. The main aim of this program is to work for sustainable development and resolution of conflicts in the world. The EIDHR program focuses on human rights and fundamental freedoms in the world and supporting the role of civil society. The EIDHR program in Jamaica aims to strengthen the civil society role in promotion of human rights as well as combat domestic violence and children safety.
General Objectives of the Program
The general objectives of the EIDHR financing instrument are to contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law, and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms, within the framework of the Community’s policy on development cooperation, and economic, financial and technical cooperation with third countries, and consistent with the European Union’s foreign policy as a whole.
Open Call for Proposals
EC has issued an open call for grant proposals under the EIDHR program from eligible organizations aimed at strengthening the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform, supporting the peaceful conciliation of group interests and consolidating political participation and representation in Jamaica.
Specific Objectives of the Call for Proposals
The specific objective of this call for proposals is to support activities of civil society organisations in the field of human rights. The priorities include:
– promoting children’s rights, including the welfare of juvenile delinquents and of children in places of safety;
– combating domestic violence;
– conditions of detention;
– alternatives to the death penalty;
– the rights of the disabled;
– combating gender discrimination.
Financial Allocation Provided by the Contracting Authority
The overall indicative amount made available under this Call for Proposals is EUR 600,000. The Contracting Authority reserves the right not to award all available funds.
Size of grants
Any grant requested under this Call for Proposals must fall between the following minimum and maximum amounts:
– minimum amount: EUR 75,000.
– maximum amount: EUR 300,000.
