The Netherlands Embassy in Jordan invites proposals for the Human Rights Fund and the Matra South Programme to support activities in those fields, the embassy can financially support activities through these two programmes.
Priorities for the Human Rights Fund are freedom of expression, protecting human rights defenders, promoting corporate social responsibility, combating discrimination, and freedom of religion. Priorities for the Matra South Fund are democratisation, enhancing the rule of law, and economic growth.
Human Rights Fund-
The Netherlands Embassy has been supporting human rights projects in Jordan for over 10 years. The current strategy of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Amman is based on the memorandum ‘Responsible for Freedom’ by the Netherlands Minister of Foreign Affairs
Eligibility & Criteria for Human Rights Fund-
- The applying organisation should be a Jordanian, Dutch or international not-for profit organisation that has demonstrated management capability.
- The duration of the project may not exceed two years.
- Indicative maximum budget is JOD 100.000 for a one-year project.
- Charitable or commercial activities are not eligible.
Submit project proposals aiming at one or more of the following priorities-
- promoting freedom of expression, including internet freedom,
- protecting and supporting human rights defenders,
- promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR), including combating child labour,
- combating discrimination on the grounds of gender, gender identity or sexual orientation,
- promoting freedom of religion and belief.
Matra South programme–
Matra is an acronym for Maatschappelijke Transformatie, meaning Societal Transformation. The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced this fund in 2012 with the aim of strengthening civil society in the MENA region and supporting its transformation to pluralistic and democratic societies governed by the rule of law. The Matra South programme supports activities that promote-
- democratisation
- rule of law
- economic growth, including job creation.
Proposals can extend to other fields such as environment, provided they contribute to one of the above-mentioned themes. Proposals must also comply with the following criteria-
- Only Jordanian civil society organisations as well as Jordanian semi-governmental organisations can apply.
- The duration of the project may not exceed two years.
- Indicative maximum budget is JOD 50.000,– for a one year project.
- Charitable or commercial activities are not eligible.
