The Make All Voices Count (MAVC) Grand Challenge for Development invites government professionals anywhere around the world committed to transparency, accountability and fostering citizen participation in the democratic process in their country for the Caritas Kitui fellowship.
The fellows will live and work for six months in Kenya on the project Enhancing Women Participation in Devolved Governance, Kitui West and Mwingi West Sub-Counties with Diocese of Kitui – Catholic Justice and Peace Commission. The project is designed to empower the rural women of Kitui County to be able to engage with the duty bearers under the county governance system (county assembly, county executive, county officials), and National governance system (management of Constituency Development Fund). The project activities target women in eight wards composing two sub-counties/constituencies (Kitui West and Mwingi West sub-counties).
Core Project Activities
- A series of radio shows targeting women within the select sub-counties and wards focusing on identified governance themes.
- Training programs for women and youth, women leaders, and selected ward representatives.
- Stakeholder forums and workshops.
- Composing and recording of traditional songs and poetry aimed at enhancing women participation in devolved governance.
Proposed SMS-based communications network will be used for the planning, execution and documentation of the above activities to:
- Gather data/information
- Send out alerts on upcoming activities
- Obtain feedback following core events and activities
- Conduct surveys through questions and feedback before, during and after the radio shows
Fellow’s Responsibilities
- Fully scope out and identify suitable SMS system that will fit into the governance project
- Implement the system and manage its use for the duration of the Fellowship
- Provide training to the project team on how to use the system
- Produce a training guide and handover materials
- Write regular reports as agreed with Fellowship Director on the status of the project
