The U.S. Department of Labor’s (USDOL) Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) will award around $6 million for one or more cooperative agreement(s) to fund a technical assistance project(s) to support efforts to reduce child labor in rubber growing areas of Liberia in FY 2012. The project will promote improved policies to address child labor in rubber producing areas and enhanced monitoring and enforcement of such policies with a focus on company-owned or operated rubber plantations.
The project will also support the direct delivery of services to children engaged in or at-risk of various forms of child labor and their households in communities where livelihoods are largely dependent on smallholder rubber production.
In FY 2012, USDOL/ILAB will award up to $6 million for one or more cooperative agreement(s) to support technical assistance project(s) to reduce child labor in rubber growing areas of Liberia. Applicants must propose strategies for working with key stakeholders, such as government, rubber companies, labor unions and other civil society actors, to improve policies for addressing and reducing child labor and for implementing, monitoring and enforcing such policies on company-owned or operated rubber plantations. The project must also support the direct delivery of services to children engaged in or at-risk of various forms of child labor and their households in communities where livelihoods are largely dependent on smallholder rubber production.
USDOL’s Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking (OCFT) conducts and funds research, develops strategic partnerships, and funds an international technical cooperation program to eliminate worst forms of child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking internationally.
