The Embassy of the United States of America in Malawi is pleased to announce funding opportunity under the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund for Malawi to support and economically empower rural community-based organizations. Malawi, the Fund aims to improve basic social and economic conditions in communities through established community groups. Grants typically range from US$2,000 to US$8,000.
The overall purpose of the Fund in Malawi is to encourage communities to improve their economic, health and social welfare conditions through Self-Help projects they implement themselves are within the ability of the local community to operate and maintain, and respond to the common needs, initiatives and aspirations of the local community.
Eligibility–
- The project initiative should come primarily from community action. Initiatives sponsored and assisted by credible development institutions, organizations or other sources outside the community are especially encouraged.
- Projects must involve a self-help contribution of labor and/or materials freely given by members of the local community. This contribution should be worth at least 25% of the total project value upon completion.
- Project categories include construction projects, water-related projects, durable equipment, environmental conservation projects, income-generating activities and health-related projects.
- All applications must be completed on a standard format available on request.
