European Union (EU) is inviting proposals for ‘Water and Sanitation Project in Peri-Urban Areas in Malawi’ 2014. Major aim of the grant program is to contribute to poverty reduction in Malawi achieving sustainable water supply and sanitation (Millennium Development Goal MDG 7c) which is achieved by contributing to national efforts to achieve the MDGs for sustainable water supply and sanitation, specifically for vulnerable peri-urban population of 7 cities and towns, by the end of 2015.
The proposed action must contain three major elements – water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion and be on the theme improved and sustainable water supply for households, schools, markets, bus stations and health centers and improved sanitation services and socio-economic conditions in low income, peri-urban areas in selected areas in cities and towns. The maximum estimated budget for the grant request is 1,500,000 and duration of the project is in between 18 to 30 months.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Legal persons in non-state-actors, or state actors and parastatals local authorities, or international (inter-governmental) organizations as defined by Article 43 of the implementing rules to the EC financial regulation and be established in EU member state or in any ACP country (This obligation does not apply for international organizations) are eligible to apply.
- The applicant must be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary.
- The proposed action must take place in peri-urban areas of Blantyre, Mzuzu, Karonga, Liwonde and Mangochi cities and towns of Malawi.
