The International Organization for Migration launched a Call for Proposals for Diaspora Associations and initiative groups under the Diaspora Small Grants Mechanism. The initiative aims to support the communication between Diaspora associations and migrants in their host countries, to develop existing or create new ways of communication between Moldova and migrants abroad, to create service platforms for migrants in host countries and to strengthen the institutional capacities of Diaspora associations and initiative groups. The total amount of support will be 50,000 Euro or maximum up to 5,000 Euro per project.

Diaspora associations registered in any of the destination countries

What projects will be supported?
Through the Diaspora Grant Mechanism we will support projects that will fall under one or more of the following domains:
- Enhancing communication between Diaspora associations and migrants in their host country
- Developing existing or creating new ways of communication and support for migrants
- Developing existing or creating viable communication channels between Moldova and migrants abroad
- Creating service platforms for migrants in host countries
- Strengthening institutional capacities of Diaspora associations and initiative groups
We will encourage partnerships of two or more Diaspora associations from one or more host countries, cooperation between Diaspora associations and Moldovan Government officials overseas (Embassies), cooperation between Diaspora associations and Moldovan civil society, including media and providers of other services, and cooperation between Diaspora associations and BIER.
What should be the project duration?
The duration of the projects can be of maximum 12 months.
Application period
The deadline to submit applications is December 1, 2010. The applications will be reviewed within 1 month. It is expected to start the implementation of selected projects on February 1, 2011.
