Open Society Foundations is pleased to offer Scholarship opportunities to study post-graduate program, individuals from Afghanistan and Nepal. Applicants should demonstrate both academic and professional excellence and the potential to become leaders in the fields of human rights and sustainable development.
Two types of awards are currently available under this program–
- Sustainable Development Practice- Ten scholarships (up to five per country) are available for the MA in Sustainable Development Practice at TERI University in New Delhi.
- The University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law, and Master of Laws (LLM) in Human Rights- The South Asia Scholarship Program offers up to 5 scholarships annually for residents of Afghanistan and Nepal to pursue LLM (Master of Laws) degrees in fields including, but not limited to, Human Rights, including topics such as Disability Rights, Minority Rights and Women’s Rights. The skills and knowledge gained during the Program will allow alumni to contribute to the economic and democratic growth of their home country and serve as leaders in their targeted field of specialization. Fellows will be placed at The University of Hong Kong for a one-year graduate program in Rights-based law beginning in September 2013 and concluding in June 2014.
Eligibility & Criteria-
- The program does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, or disability
- hold an undergraduate degree at the time of the application deadline with an excellent academic record
- are legal residents of and currently living in their home country
- have experience working in at least one of the fields listed above in home country
- are proficient in English
- are committed to returning to their home country after completion of the program to continue work and impart knowledge gained during their studies
- Able to demonstrate professional aptitude and leadership potential
- Able to begin the academic exchange program in Hong Kong in the fall of 2013
- Able to receive and maintain a visa
TOEFL Requirement– The minimum TOEFL score required by The University of Hong Kong is at least 593 on the paper-based examination, or at least 97 on the computer-based examination.
IELTS Requirement– The minimum IELTS score required by The University of Hong Kong is Band 7.0 with no subtest lower than 6.5
