The Oxfam’s AMAL Innovation Fund (OAIF) is open for proposal submission from non-governmental, non-profit and community-based women or youth-led organizations established in Morocco, Tunisia, the Occupied Palestinian Territories (including Gaza) or Yemen. New and emerging organizations established no more than 4 years are strongly encouraged to apply for the fund. The fund is established to support the emerging and new organizations and social movements and informal groups improve their skills and capacity to advocate for women’s rights agenda and influence the decision-makers at local or national level.
AMAL is an Oxfam Program with the theme of Supporting Women’s transformative leadership in changing times in the MENA Region. AMAL aims to promote the active participation and leadership of women (including the poorest and most marginalized) in the MENA region in local, national and regional governance structures and decision-making processes. This ensures that they have a say in formulation and/or their needs and priorities are reflected in socio-economic policies and practice at all levels.
Applications can be made for grants range between US$10,000 and US$35,000 to implement the project for a maximum duration of 12 months.
The proposed initiatives must contribute to change in one or more of the following areas at local community, sub-national, national, or regional levels –
- Change public perception about the value and legitimacy of women’s leadership, participation and/or rights.
- Enhance and build capacity of women to lead on actions that reduce inequality and/or discrimination against a particular group in their communities/society.
- Increase the responsiveness and accountability of local and national services, policies and laws in relation to women’s practical and strategic needs and priorities.
- Change attitudes and positions of decision makers or laws and policies that discriminate against women.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Applicant organization must be established and based in any one of the following countries – Morocco, Tunisia, the Occupied Palestinian Territories (including Gaza) or Yemen.
- Applicant can be a new organization – non-governmental, non-profit and community-based women or youth-led organizations that have been officially registered for no more than four (4) years can apply both as single organization or as a consortia of more than one new organization.
- Established non-governmental, non-profit and community-based women or youth-led organizations that have been officially registered for more than four (4) years can apply in partnership with one (1) or more new organization.
- Established non-governmental, non-profit and community-based women or youth-led organizations that have been officially registered for more than four (4) years can apply in partnership with one (1) or more unregistered, informal group and/or movement with evidence of activism and operating in any one of the four (4) AMAL focus countries.
- Governmental organizations, political parties or the organizations they fund, academic institutions, businesses, and international organizations are not eligible to apply for the fund.
