University of the Philippines, College of Mass Communication (UP-CMC) originally established as University of the Philippines, Institute of Mass Communication (UP-IMC) in 1965. During 1966-67, AB Broadcast Communication and the MA programs were started by the university. During later years, many other academic programs including AB Communication Research, PhD in Communication program, BA in Communication program, etc., were initiated. In 1988, the status of UP-IMC was elevated to college level and since then, it came to be known as College of Mass Communication.
UP-CMC is currently seeking applications for 15th Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop fellowships.
About the Workshop
UP-CMC will hold the 15th Lopez Jaena Journalism Workshop from October 19 to 25 at the UP College of Mass Communication, Diliman, Quezon City. The workshop will focus on justice and human rights.
Resource persons from the academic and human rights groups will speak on issues like culture of impunity and investigative reporting.
Since its first workshop in 1985, the Lopez Jaena Journalism Workshop has trained hundreds of community journalists. Among the past fellows are Froilan Gallardo, Frank Cimatu, Ilang-ilang Quijano, Jo Clemente, Diosa Labiste, Danny Calleja, Flor Abanto and Maurice Malanes.
About the Fellowships
Fellowship slots are available for this workshop. Applications are open to full-time print, broadcast and online journalists.
Applicants should be currently engaged in the journalism profession with at least two years’ working experience. They should also be below 45 years old. They must submit an application letter; resume; two published/broadcast news reports; a story plan for an investigative report on a justice and human rights-related issue in their locality; and an endorsement from their editor, local press club president or a Lopez Jaena Journalism Workshop alumnus.
The fellowship will cover board and lodging. Participants will be billeted inside the UP Diliman campus.
Last date for submitting the applications is August 31, 2011.
