The Open Society Foundations, in collaboration with EARTH University, is inviting applications for EARTH University Scholarships program 2013-2015 for students from Haiti, Liberia and Sierra Leone to study at EARTH University, Costa Rica. Under this program, the students are offered to pursue Bachelor of Science degree program with a focus on natural resource management and social entrepreneurship.
Curriculum at the EARTH University is focused on agricultural study, leadership and community development equipping the emerging young leaders with qualities to confront the social and environmental challenges of their home countries in tangible and socially responsive ways. During the program, students apply their learning through collaborative group projects, local field work and a mandatory internship in their third year. The training helps equip individuals to return to their home countries to help alleviate poverty and encourage sustainable development.
The Open Society Foundations was established in 1984 by George Soros. The objective behind establishing the foundation was to assist different countries in making the transition from communism. Since that time, the foundation has experienced much expansion, and today its operations are spread in more than 70 countries in different continents. The foundation now aims to support public policies that encourage fairness in political and economic systems and strengthen fundamental human rights.
