Deadline: 28.02.2013
A call for proposals for three-year Joint Research Projects (JRPs) for researchers based in Switzerland and in South Africa is announced by the Swiss South African Joint Research Programme (SSAJRP) which is funded through the Swiss bilateral programmes with priority countries. A budget of CHF 5.5 million is available in Switzerland under this program for the implementation of three-year Joint Research Projects carried out by groups of researchers from South Africa, jointly with groups of researchers from Switzerland.
The maximum amount to be awarded for a single JRP on the Swiss side will be CHF 230,000. Projects within the following thematic areas will be funded:
- Public Health and Biomedicine
- Biotechnology and Nanotechnology
- Greentech and Cleantech
- Humanities and Social Sciences (in particular related to the other three thematic areas)
Proposals are to be jointly prepared by Swiss and South African applicants and must be submitted by the Swiss PIs to the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) via its electronic submission platform mySNF (www.mysnf.ch). South African partners can access mySNF through their Swiss partner. The “Call Document” on the webpage indicated below provides a detailed description of the call.
Promote research cooperations with priority countries
By means of bilateral programmes with priority countries, the Swiss Government aims to promote and reinforce research cooperations with non-European countries that show high or promising research potential. In the new phase of this initiative (2013-2016), South Africa remains one of the partner countries, and the continuation of the SSAJRP is therefore guaranteed. The SNSF and the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF) were chosen, respectively, by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research and the South African Department of Science and Technology to manage the call for Joint Research Projects.
