Deadline: 28 November 2014
The Higher Education South Africa (HESA) invites university professionals in middle management positions (both academic and non-academic) for the Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) Program 2015. The program will bring together around 40 professionals within HESA’s university sector who exhibit management and leadership potential in their university. HELM will run between the months of February and July 2015.
The HELM Program aims to provide opportunity for the eligible participants to gain the knowledge and skills required for playing a constructive managerial role in advancing overall institutional performance within the framework set by legislation, national higher education policies and governance arrangements, a variety of system and institutional planning measures including those related to teaching and learning and research, and the funding of higher education institutions. It also seeks to raise the awareness of participants with regard to major developments in international higher education and also to expose participants to the fundamental role played by a number of ‘soft skills’ in the realization of institutional goals and objectives.
Travel costs, full board and lodging of all the successful participants will be covered by Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA) grant.

Three residential workshops of 2 or 2.5 days will be held in Gauteng between February and June. These workshops will build the participants competencies and provide opportunities to apply their expertise within their institutions. They will complete total two assignments between the workshops.
