The South African Medical Research Council invites applications for National Health Scholars Program entitled Masters and PhD Scholarships in HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Research 2014. Eligible South African health professionals are encouraged to apply to conduct research in the fields of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis in South Africa or abroad for one to four years to commence either Masters or PhD degree in a chosen field.
The National Health Scholars Program aims to contribute positively towards efforts to strengthen and accelerate progress towards equity in research capacity development of all young scientists across South Africa. Priority is given to under-represented designated groups, institutions and research tracks.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be South African nationals.
- Applicants must be eligible health professionals.
- Proposed project must be conducted in the fields of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis in South Africa or abroad.
- Applications must be made to commence or complete a Masters or PhD degree.
Application materials include – curriculum vitae; motivation letter; abstract of the Masters/PhD proposal outlining the rationale, design, feasibility, plans for research translation and information dissemination as well as potential impact of the proposed research project; statement from the supervisor indicating commitment to educate and train the applicant and an outline of publications, grants and experience of supervising Masters/PhD students; a letter from the host institution with completed and signed application form.
