The United States Agency for International Development in Sri Lanka (USAID/Sri Lanka) is inviting applications for Maldives Election Support Activity (MESA) program to facilitate a national political dialogue, strengthen civil society, the judiciary, the Maldives Election Commission (MEC) and to monitor elections.
The Maldives Election Support Activity (MESA) is an 18-month activity that will work in close coordination with the United States Mission in Sri Lanka and complement other USG funded-activities implemented simultaneously in-country.
MESA seeks to address the urgent and unforeseen crisis in Maldives through three components:
- Mitigate the risk of violent political competition by support for non-partisan discussion forums of civic and business leaders, as well as representatives from political parties and GOM agencies
- Support for civil society to advance reconciliation and the democratic transition
- Support to independent commissions to strengthen the institutional culture of transparency, accountability and oversight
Eligibility–
- Qualified US and non-US organizations
- Applicants must be legally established non-governmental entities and individuals, otherwise there is no restriction
