Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme, jointly funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) and participating institutions in the United Kingdom (UK), is accepting applications from the Commonwealth country students pursuing taught Master’s course in selected Universities in the UK. The major aim of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is to assist students from developing Commonwealth countries that have excellent academic performance but would not otherwise be able to study in UK because of financial constraints.
Tuition fees and air fares to and from the UK is provided by CSC while the maintenance allowance (£1,173 per month for scholars based in London; and £948 per month for scholars based in rest of the UK – as set by the government of UK) is offered by the host institution. Additionally, grants to cover thesis costs (£225) and some grants for study travel (£200) are also offered under the scheme.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Applicants must be nationals of a Commonwealth developing country, and currently not living or studying in a developed country.
- Applicants must not have undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country.
- Applicants must demonstrate proof that they are themselves, or through their families, unable to pay to study in the United Kingdom.
- Applicants must commit to return to their home country as soon as their award comes to an end.
- Application can be made only for taught Masters’ courses and subjects must be related to the economic, social and technological development of the student’s home country.
- Applicant must demonstrate a first degree at either first class or upper second-class level academic performance. Sponsoring institutions must confirm that candidates are sufficiently fluent in written and oral English to pursue their proposed studies immediately, as no pre-course English Language Teaching is available under these awards.
Application must be submitted using the Commission’s Electronic Application System (EAS).
