Commonwealth Foundation has announced grant opportunity for civil society organizations to implement projects in developing countries. The mission of this program is to involve the inclusion of civil society in decision-making processes, enabling citizens to exercise voice and vote, and engage in policy formation.
Objectives-
- Deliver an efficient and effective programme which is responsive to the development needs of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) across the Commonwealth
- Complement the effectiveness of the Foundation’s projects by providing grants to CSOs beyond those supported through the projects
- Generate knowledge and understanding of participatory governance and its benefits in promoting effective, responsive and accountable governance within the Commonwealth by supporting models of good practice

- Environmental sustainability
- Cultural respect and understanding
Maximum grant offered is up to up to £30,000 per annum for up to a maximum of three years.
Eligibility & Criteria-
- The applicant organisation is a registered national or regional civil society organisation (CSO)
- The proposed project addresses one of the Commonwealth Foundation’s four short-term outcome areas
- Projects take place in an eligible Commonwealth Foundation member country or territory
- Grant beneficiaries are from an eligible Commonwealth Foundation member country
- The average of the applicant’s total income over the last 2 years is less than £3m
- The applicant is seeking up to a maximum of three years funding from the Commonwealth Foundation
- The applicant is seeking up to a maximum of £30,000 per annum.
- The application includes counterpart resourcing1 of a minimum of 10% of the total project budget. Applicants will be required to provide a detailed budget at full application stage where counterpart resourcing must be clearly reflected.
- The applicant does not have an existing grant from the Commonwealth Foundation at the time the call for grants is announced.
