University of Colombo is seeking applications from qualified candidates for Doctoral Research Grants 2011. Funds are available with the university to support the research. The funding for research makes a part of the plans of the university to encourage the research culture among the students. The grants also aim to enhance the quality of research to improve the rating of the university in the global university ranking system. The university also intends to increase the number of PhD scholars as well as number of scientific publications being produced in the university.
Eligibility For Collaborative research grant proposals: Senior or Mid-career academics
Competitive research grants (with a mandatory training component) will be awarded in varying disciplines, including: Agro technology, Basic Sciences, Biotechnology, Computer Science & Information Technology, Energy, Engineering Sciences & Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Food Sciences, Geology & Earth Sciences, Health Sciences, Hydrology, Library & Information Science, Nanotechnology, Natural Resources & Biodiversity, Oceanography & Marine Sciences, Science Education, Social Sciences, Science & Technology Policy Studies, International Relations, Legal Studies, Management & Finance, Education, Multidiscipline,
– Eligible individuals:
Any Senior or Mid-career-level academic who has the knowledge and skills to carry out the proposed studies and who is willing to undertake the supervision of a research trainee(s) who would need to register for a research degree with the University of Colombo and successfully complete a doctoral-level research degree (Ph.D) within a maximum period of 4 years.
– Budget and Duration:
Applicants may request up to SL Rs. 1,000,000.00 (1.0Mn) as annual cost for a period of performance of no more than 3 years.
Eligibility for Scholarships or Fellowships: Junior-level academics (probationary lecturers)
Funds could be requested for research studies that would lead to a doctoral-level research degree (Ph.D.).
– Eligible individuals:
Academics, Research Officers and Scientific Assistants (in the permanent cadre) who should register for a research degree with the University of Colombo with plans for successful completion of a doctoral-level research degree (Ph.D) within a maximum period of 4 years.
– Budget and Duration:
Applicants may request up to SL Rs. 500,000.00 as annual cost for a period of performance of no more than 3 years.
Applicants are encouraged to:
– Propose collaborative studies together with an established overseas university
– Include a training component for the research student in an established overseas institution

Request for funds to pay for investigations done in private laboratories on a fee-levying basis
