The European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) is a European Union programme that came into being in 2007 to promote democracy and human rights in the whole world by supporting the initiatives adopted by the civil society. This approach aims to work for sustainable development, the resolution of conflicts and the eradication of terrorism from the world. This specific instrument offers financial support for the activities that strengthen democracy and the human rights in the world.
Call for Proposals
The Delegation of the European Union to Turkey has issued a restricted call for proposals from individuals, organizations or groups for implementation of European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights Country Based Support Scheme in Turkey.
Since 2002, EIDHR has provided support to more than 100 projects in Turkey addressing issues ranging from freedom of expression, to improved access to justice, to fight against torture and impunity, to women’s rights, to protection and respect of cultural diversity. This support has been instrumental in complementing Turkey’s reform efforts through enabling better participation of organised citizens in the reform process.
Objectives of the Programme and Priority Issues
The global objective of this Call for Proposals is to contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms
The two specific objectives of this Call for Proposals are:
– Strengthening civil society’s involvement in the making, implementation and monitoring of human rights policies at local and national levels
Under this specific objective, priority areas are:
- freedom of expression, conscience, religion, media, assembly and association;
- access to justice, right to fair trial and due process, human rights in prisons;
- prevention of torture and ill-treatment;
- fight against impunity for any human rights violation;
- anti-discrimination (including LGBTT rights), cultural rights, minority rights;
– Supporting Human Rights Defenders
This objective aims at supporting civil society organisations that work for the defence of human rights including by supporting Human Rights Defenders. Proposals under this specific objective can address any situation where defenders fight for the promotion and protection of human rights at national and local level as well as in case of human rights violation. Proposals can cover:
- actions for the protection of defenders;
- enhancing technical knowledge and skills of human rights defenders;
- strengthening capacities of human rights defenders organisations for carrying out their activities;
Proposals shall answer one specific objective.
Note. This is a restricted Call for Proposals. In the first instance, only Concept Notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, applicants whose Concept Notes have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a Full Application Form
