İstanbul Şehir University is a non-profit as well as private higher education institution incorporated by the Foundation for Sciences and Arts (Bilim ve Sanat Vakfı / BSV) in 2008.
Its founder BSV is a renowned NGO functioning for more than 25 years in the field of social sciences, organizing several international and national academic activities and free seminars in related areas. İstanbul Şehir University aims to become a prominent institution in Turkey and its neighboring regions in the field of higher education and research with its young and qualified teaching staff, dynamic interdisciplinary curricula and eclectic programs, a wide range of elective courses, rich library and research-focused agenda,
The university invited its first students in 2010-2011 academic year and already has 753 undergraduate and 128 graduate students. International degree students from over 30 different countries comprise 10% of the entire student body and this percentage is expected to increase each year in accordance with the strategic plan of the university.
