Call for applications are announced by UNITER Project in association with East Europe Foundation on the subject, “Parliamentary Elections in Ukraine 2012: Support of Civil Initiatives”.
The major objective of current CFA is to sponsor NGO-driven, non-partisan advocacy initiatives from different regions of Ukraine, deto enhance transparent and fair parliamentary elections in 2012. The proposals supported under this CFA will look at elections as means in democratic reform processes, not an ends. Successful proposals should be highlighted to have an impact beyond elections rather than emphasized solely on Election Day.
Major objectives:
- To create awareness among voters on new legislation regulating parliamentary elections process
- To provide Ukrainian citizens with access to balanced information on the participants of election campaign and election process
- To encourage active and honest public participation in the electoral process
- To create and develop regional networks and platforms to enhance wide public participation in providing fair and honest elections
- To ensure greater civil society influence over electoral processes and elected officials, increase their accountability and transparency
Project activities may include but are not limited to:
- Awareness raising campaigns on electoral rights and principles
- Organization of public fora, town hall meetings and issue based candidate debates, with a goal of facilitating meaningful and substantive dialogue with and vetting of candidates seeking office
- Voter lists verification initiatives
- New innovative tools in polling and analysis of citizens’ and the country’s priorities
- New media and mobile technology for election awareness, voter education, transparency of electoral processes and advocacy
- Issue and constituency based get-out-the-vote campaigns targeting the population at large, as well as disadvantaged groups (youth, women, disabled people)
- Media outreach, candidate debates and issue based awareness raising campaigns
- NGO monitoring and advocacy efforts that promote Ukrainian reforms and help citizens hold government accountable
