United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has issued a Call for Applications (CFA) for the “Ukraine National Initiatives to Enhance Reforms” (UNITER) project, implemented by Pact Inc.
Purpose
The primary purpose of the UNITER project is to strengthen and assist leading pro-reform Ukrainian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to sustain and consolidate democratic gains. It supports NGO initiatives from various spheres of public life, which are essential in advancing Ukraine’s development processes.
Objectives
– Engaging different stakeholders in the policy dialogue on land reform issues;
– Raising citizens’ awareness on the need for the reform;
– Advocating for citizens interests in the land reform to ensure the transparent mechanisms for land market operations.
Eligibility criteria
Officially registered NGOs and coalitions of NGOs from all regions of Ukraine, with proven experience and capacity to responsibly manage grants are encouraged to apply.
Activities
The activities may include but are not limited to:
– Building coalitions of key stakeholders of the land issues, such as think tanks, NGOs, experts, media, and international organizations;
– Development of joint positions, consensus building on policy or legislative recommendations followed through with effective advocacy campaign;
– Grass-roots civic education about the expected changes brought about by the land reform;
– Advocacy and public awareness campaigns that lead to the citizens engagement in the reform process in Ukraine;
– NGO activities aimed at engaging and educating media on the issues of the land reform processes in Ukraine;
– Introduction of innovative civic mobilization, new media and social networking tools.
Grant amount
Pact plans to support one to three coalitions and/or initiatives closely collaborating with each other. The total pool for this CFA is up to USD 300,000.
Deadline for submission of proposals is August 15, 2011.
