The Other Foundation (tOF) is inviting proposals especially from individuals and organizations that Work in faith-based communities, engaging popular culture to challenge myths and stereotypes, and building alliances with other social justice movements for the year 2014. The main purpose of the grants program is to support work that will advance the rights and improve the well-being of LGBTI people in Southern Africa.
Names of the Grant Programs –
- Namaqualand Daisy Grants – for individual activists (including artists and researchers). The maximum award under this grant is ZAR10,000 for work over a 3 – 12 month period.
- Inyosi (Honey Bee) Grants – for smaller organizations that are seeking support for a project or for core support. The maximum award under this grant is ZAR50,000 over a 6 – 12 month period.
- Hungwe (Fish Eagle) Grants – for established organizations seeking support for a project or for core support. The maximum award under this grant is ZAR150,000 (12 months) or ZAR200,000 (24 months).
- Mosu (Umbrella Thorn Tree) Grants – for core support to organizations working at a national or regional level. The maximum award under this grant is ZAR500,000 over 24 months.
Eligibility Criteria –
- The proposals must show how the applicant’s work is going to advance the rights or improve the well-being of LGBTI people in Southern Africa.
- Applicant organizations must be working and registered in (or be sponsored by an organization that is registered in) one of the following countries – Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia or Zimbabwe. Individual applying for a grant, need to be both a citizen of one of these countries and be living in one of them (applicant’s citizenship and place of residence can be different).
- Applicant organizations Must have a track record of working with LGBTI individuals and/or communities in Southern Africa, or be able to demonstrate how the work will lay the foundations for ongoing work in these communities.
