The University of Zambia is seeking applications for Master of Science & Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Economics. This program is being supported by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and European Union. The mission of this program is to support student research in areas relating to the socio-economic analysis of tradeoffs and synergies between food security, adaptation to climate change, and mitigation of GHG emissions. Faculty members are encouraged to contribute as Co-Principal Investigators or supervisors.
Areas of interest-
- Conservation agriculture, agroforestry and soil & water conservation (SWC)
- Diversification of crop production into other activities (e.g. livestock, dairy, , fisheries)
- The role of agriculture as a driver of deforestation (given the importance of Zambia as a UN-REDD country)
- Investments and financing to support CSA for smallholder agriculture
- Agricultural practices to increase soil carbon and productivity
Eligibility & Criteria-
- The applicants for the scholarship awards is limited to Zambian Nationals enrolled in a MSc or PhD program in a reputable university.
- Potential candidates that satisfy the above criteria working with National Agriculture Research Institutions, Universities, Ministry of Agriculture and other related ministries and institutions are encouraged to apply.
- Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply and will be given priority for scholarship awards as long as they meet other academic criteria.
