The UK Department for International Development (DFID) organizes the Disability Rights Fund to strengthen the participation of Disabled Persons’ Organizations (DPOs) in the advancement of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at country level. The fund operates in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, and Eastern Europe. Funding is broken down into 3 groups:
- Small Grants are one year grants ranging between USD 5,000 and 20,000
- Mid-Level Coalition grants are 2 year grants ranging between USD 30,000 and 40,000 per year for 2 years
- National Coalition grants are 2 year grants ranging between USD 30,000-$50,000 per year for 2 years
The 2014 grant cycle consists of 2 funding rounds:
- round 1 for DPOs in Haiti, Indonesia, Lebanon, Malawi and Myanmar. Selected applicants from India and Ukraine were also invited to apply. Now closed
- round 2 for countries in the Pacific Islands and Rwanda. Selected applicants from Peru will also be invited to apply. Deadline for applications was 21 August 2014
