The Emergency is an independent and neutral Italian Foundation started in 1994 to provide medical and surgical care free and of high quality to the victims of war, landmines and poverty. From its inception to today, Emergency has treated more than 6 million people in 16 countries.

Emergency builds and operates
- Hospitals dedicated to the victims of war and surgical emergencies
- Centers for the physical and social rehabilitation of the victims of landmines and other war trauma, first aid posts (FAP – First aid post) for the immediate treatment of the wounded
- Health centers for basic medical care
- Pediatric centers
- Clinics and mobile clinics for migrants and disadvantaged people
- Centers of excellence
Emergency forms local staff according to criteria and standards high professional level, implements development projects in the countries in which it operates, and organizes training courses for patients maimed and disabled.
