Vehicle donations are not as common as computer and book donations especially because of the high shipping costs and import duties. Transport Aid was one of the few pioneer organizations which started the process of donating Japanese vehicles to charities, churches, sports groups, NGOs, hospitals, schools and individuals undertaking humanitarian work in Southern Africa.
It was founded by Julie Berg in 1999 from a conviction that transportation was often the missing link in empowering aid organizations in developing countries. Through her vision, more than 4,000 cars, trucks and vans have been donated to humanitarian individuals and organizations in Africa. However it is not clear whether it is still continuing this program.
There are other agencies in USA and UK that openly request for car donations which are promised to be offered to charities in poor countries across Africa and Asia.
Some of these agencies are like Habitat for Humanity which raises vehicle donations from public as part of its housing rehabilitation program.
The Car Donation Network is a registered charity in the UK which makes donating a car easy and requests for car donations.
Alliance for African Assistance in USA has a Vehicle Donation Program that seeks donations of used car, truck or boat to be passed on the needy in African countries.
None of the above organizations has any open channels through which anyone can apply for the vehicle donations.
