On Sep.21, 2011, Coca-Cola Co.’s charitable organization, which is located in Atlanta, announced awards worth $9.6 million. The money would be awarded to 43 promotion projects related to environmental, educational and health, across the globe.
Coca Cola Foundation will be conferring the major portion of these awards to water stewardship projects. In fact, water stewardship projects would be getting $3.6 million from the organization.
According to Saunders Jones, chairperson of the Coca-Cola Foundation, the beneficiaries of these awards represent “a wide-range of sustainable community programs across the globe to help develop economies, improve lives and create opportunity.”
United Nations Foundation will be getting $2 million for its projects on community-based water management and adaptation to climate change. In fact, it is the recipient if the single largest award. Amongst the other international recipients is Coca-Cola Africa Foundation and Africare that provides support and help to people with HIV and AIDS; it will receive $1 million. World Wildlife Fund Inc.’s Spanish organization is another beneficiary that would be getting $441,000, to restore the Alto Guadiana watershed in Spain. Many more awards would go to projects in Austria, Belgium, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Estonia, Honduras, Israel, the Philippines, Russia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.
The local recipients include Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta Inc.’s for its program to promote physical activity, the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation’s high school leadership academy and Urban League of Greater Atlanta Inc. for its projects related to career development.
