Euro-Med Youth is a regional program set up within the framework of the third chapter of the Barcelona Process entitled “partnership in social, cultural and human affairs. The Barcelona Declaration, adopted in 1995, laid down the foundations for the Euro-Med Youth Program and stressed that ‘youth exchanges should be the means to prepare future generations for a closer co-operation between the Euro-Mediterranean partners’.
The Euro-Med Youth Program focuses on activities promoting non-formal education, intercultural learning and active citizenship among young people, youth leaders and youth workers operating within the framework of youth organizations and civil organizations dealing with youth. The Program has been designed to facilitate encounters, partnerships and networks within the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
Grants awarded under Euromed Youth are intended to support the implementation of actions by NGOs working to support and consolidate the participation and contribution of youth groups and young people in general, between all countries of the European Union and the southern shore of the Mediterranean, aiming towards the development of civil society and democracy.
EuroMed Youth IV is funded by the EU during the period 2010-2013 with a budget of €5 million under the European Neighbourhood Policy. The program aims at stimulating and encouraging mutual comprehension among young people in the Euro-Mediterranean region, fighting stereotypes and prejudices and enhancing the sense of solidarity among youth by promoting active citizenship. It also seeks to contribute to the development of youth policies in the Mediterranean Partner Countries.
