The development NGO, Save the Children announced the winners of the first Corporate Business Awards. These are new awards initiated to honor, felicitate and thank the corporate partners of the charity, who have been supporting it in its humanitarian mission.
Douglas Rouse, the corporate partnerships director of Save the Children, launched the Awards program. He joined the charity organization almost 18 months ago from the British Heart Foundation.
The corporate supports that received the honor include GlaxoSmithKline, FirstGroup and Mothercare. A ceremony was held at London’s BT Tower last week, to honor the partners. Some of the categories included in the award ceremony were, ‘Outstanding achievement in promoting Save the Children’s mission and values’, ‘Outstanding achievements in employee fundraising’ and ‘Special achievement award for a new corporate partner’. The charity’s chief executive Justin Forsyth and Ambassador Natasha Kaplinsky presented the awards to 13 companies and two individuals.
Since Rouse took up the leadership of the corporate partnerships, there has been a monumental increase in the Save the Children’s corporate partnership activity. The Awards are a part of that expansion. The new strategy and team structure has helped increase the income from £3.9m in 2009 to £13m this year. This year’s new partners include Morrisons, Mothercare, Lloyds Banking Group and Arsenal Football Club.
