Imagine how small efforts at community and local level when supported by financial aid can go a long way in building a better future for the entire humanity. The photograph here is one such example that was among the top-ten entries in the recently concluded Frontline Photo Contest.
The photograph here is of Afghan technicians finishing installation and testing of the solar array of a 2 kW solar-powered system to provide power to the Shaheed Mahmoodi High School in Band-e Amir National Park in Bamiyan Province, benefitting its 621 male and female students. The project supported by USAID is aimed at electrification of rural schools in Afghanistan, through projects like the Afghanistan Clean Energy Program (ACEP).
FrontLines in partnership with the Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade bureau held the photo contest celebrating Earth Day on April 22 and World Environment Day on June 5. Theme of this year’s contest was focused on the environment. The winning images depict wildlife and their habitats, as well as efforts by USAID, its partners and local communities to conserve the environment and mitigate climate change. Photos came from all areas of the globe and a wide range of USAID projects.
