(7) Market Studies and Value Chain Analysis

A series of market studies and value chain analysis will be undertaken with the support of external consultants to identify the marketing potential of agriculture and non-agriculture produce in the local and outside markets around the project area and the role of women in the value chains. Sub-sectors, identified during the livelihood assessment, such as non-timber forest produce, vegetables, organic products, livestock, poultry, beekeeping, carpet-making and other enterprises will be extensively studied. Specific information on consumption, prices, inflows and outflows, return analysis for production, storage, transportation, marketing etc will be collected. The findings of the study will be shared with the communities and under the risks and assumptions analysed, strategy for collective production will be developed jointly. This exercise will enable cooperatives to plan and execute production and marketing activities on their own.

Justification

Identification of potential livelihood sectors has to be combined with strong market information to achieve better incomes. Also, market studies enable formation of marketing linkages and value chain analysis is essential to address the flaws in women’s control over resources and markets.

Role of Partners

Proponent Organization: Proponent Organization will coordinate hiring of external consultants or facilitate its international staff in carrying out the market studies and value chain analysis. Proponent Organization will provide inputs in the overall strategy and presentation of the report.

Partner NGOs: Partner NGOs will work with external resource persons and provide assistance in carrying out the studies.
