During the conflict period, NGOs played a significant role in providing support to vulnerable communities and lobbying for their rights, mostly with the aid of international donors. However, the post-conflict period, in line with the globalization trends, expects them to look beyond foreign donor support and take up a new role in provision of holistic and sustainable services to communities from community organization to social protection. To ensure sustainability of the proposed action, it is important to build the capacities of NGOs to facilitate their long-term relationship with local communities beyond the proposed action.
The aftermath of the conflict has also witnessed the hurdles before local government institutions. They are yet to achieve credibility and new skills need to be introduced for better management and provision of better service to communities. The low management skills of local developmental agencies of the government has been considered to be one of the root causes of the conflict. So the proposed action will address this issue to avoid any repetition of the past. This strategy is also important to build synergy with these institutions for overall development.
